Created for over 40 years in order to represent all trainers working in France, the Trainers’ Federation has François-Xavier de CHEVIGNY nowadays for its president, along with 2 vice presidents : Gabriel LEENDERS, Nicolas CLEMENT, with additional support from Mikel DELZANGLES, Didier PROD’HOMME and Ludovic Gabin.
Our priority is to empower our profession as trainers, especially with the creation of workgroups for the Racing Program, tax rules and regulations and health protection (Health insurance, Emergency Fund).
Our local representatives are extremely important, as well as our Bureau and Committee members, in order to get trainer involved in the future of their profession as a group. It is also a way to innovate and suggest the right solutions for tomorrow’s French Racing Industry.
We aim to protect our members' best interests every day, with a dedicated team lead by our Secretary General François-Xavier de Chevigny, supported by Helene Hatchiguian.
To be advised and up-to-date in order to protect our members' best interests everyday, rising awareness on the excellence of Thoroughbred training in France ; To work mutually with breeders, owners or even the French Jockeys Organization on many topics
The Federation’s financial resources come from a 0.25% withdrawal from the prize money won by our members (article 37 from French Horse Racing Act). About 60% national or foreign trainers implanted in France are currently members of the Federation.
Fine money taken from trainers by France Galop is given back to the Federation according to the number of members in order to provide for the Emergency Fund. This money is used monthly to support trainers’ widows, retired or disabled trainers, who are having some important financial trouble.
After World War II, several trainers gathered from Maisons-Laffitte gathered together and created a syndicate to develop a network around them. In 1977, Monsieur d’Aillières changed the syndicate for the actual Trainers’ Federation.
Afterwards, the office was relocated to Chantilly. It is a significant milestone for the trainers because from now on they were able to get a health protection as a group that was right for their needs. The federation pays for 30% of the monthly costs of this health plan for each member. The plan charges are the same for every single trainer, with no influence of his age or his family situation. In 1992, Monsieur d’AILLIERES was able to get a seat on the France Galop Committee to represent trainers.
It is obvious that the Thoroughbred Trainers Federation can’t represent our members while being isolated from other professionals of the racing industry. The main purpose of our action are to work together to build the tomorrow’s French Racing Industry.
As an example of our actions, the Federation has worked for more than 15 years for trainers to have the agricultural fiscal advantage obtained in 2004. Furthermore, the agricultural status was obtained for trainers in 2005 (Thanks to Dominique de BELLAIGUE, president of The Cheval Français).
